Album review: Above Them - Put Your Heart Into ThisThough this EP may be small in quantity it makes up for it in quality as it is truly a record that shows the range, depth and experience that champions ‘Above Them’ as a band to watch closer for future prospects. I tend to enjoy most records that come my way but this is one of the few that has really shocked me as it holds much more than a debut record naturally should; and this is a good thing. The song writing skills are all there and give this band all the creditability they deserve. The three piece group has been compared to other acts such as early Fightstar and Funeral for a Friend and though they might have elements of these big name peers they have a unique flair that gives them a sharp edge of originality and passion. Favourite track of the record is for me the opener ‘You think you’ve changed the world’ which is the most defined and accomplished track on ‘Put your heart into this’ and is well rounded in all it aims to give to the listener. There is more that can be perfected to tighten the overall flow of the tracks and record generally but this comes through the organic growth that any band learns as they build on their body of work and makes their style their own. Verdict: I hope these boys give us more on the next record; more tracks, because right now this EP will need to be changed soon after its continual use by myself and my friends I keep forcing it onto.
