Album: Apocalyptica - Worlds CollideSo much has changed since their debut 'Apocalyptica plays Metallica by four Cello’s'. They have of course been practicing in writing their own tracks for some time now and it is paying of! This album is exhilarating, moving and rocking! The regular edition of Worlds Collide contains eleven tracks, during which the tension is build very fast to come to a slightly slower pace during the last track Peace. Besides the all instrumental tracks four songs with vocals were added to the album, starring Lacuna Coil’s Christina Scabbia in SOS (Anything but Love), 3 Days Grace frontman Adam Gontier in I don’t Care and Corey Taylor (Slipknot and Stone Sour) in their first single of this album I’m not Jesus. Thoughts on this release are mixed. The track doesn’t sound very much like Apocalyptica, but it is an awesome song. And then there is Till Lindemann (Rammstein), covering Bowie’s Heroes in German, which is my least favourite track but I’m getting used to it. Apocalyptica has done their best to add some new sounds and elements to this album. New instrumental tricks can be heard and the drums seen to have taken on a stronger role. You can actually hear how hard Mikko Sirén, now an official band member, hits those drums! And if you thought there’s something different about Last Hope, then your right: Dave Lombardo stars in it! Of course a deluxe edition of Worlds Collide was released, on which there are two bonus tracks added and it holds a DVD with the video for and making of I’m not Jesus. I wasn’t really impressed by Ural. Both bonus tracks seem to lack the strength of the rest of the album. Dreamer, however, is very beautiful in a gloomy way. Strongest tracks: World’s Collide, Ion and Stroke. I can’t say I dislike even one track. I can only like them slightly less. Most of the tracks are gig-ready, which makes me enormously curious and impatient and makes it so hard to wait till December. Verdict: Ooh, how I love this band and their new album! I honestly believe this is their best so far. But I so hope it won’t make them more open to the bigger crowds. I want small intimate gigs! And I want them now! |
