None - I Do I Do album 2007

Album: I Do I Do - None

Loud and melancholic, that's how the guys of I Do I Do describe their own style. And that's what we at The Bullet like to hear! I Do I Do was actually the very first band to send their album to us to review (through MySpace), so major credits to the band for being brave enough to do so. The band was founded in Ghent [Belgium] in 2004, by longterm partners in music Stefaan Decroos (guitar/vocals) and Jonas Tournicourt (guitar/vocals). Stephan Spriet (drums) and Jeff Goddard (bass) complete the band. None is their very first album, recorded in Massachusetts in the summer of 2006. The band worked on it with Chris Brokaw, Paul Q Kolderie and Adam Taylor.

from start to finish, this album contains nothing but decent tracks. Come is a basic guitarband-song; nice melody, nice lyrics. It gets more interesting during second song Delta Blues, which has a quirky beat. The Devil - you and me, and the devil makes three - is also a fun track. The quality of the songs on this album is very high. Lyricwise, but also the choice of instruments, intervals and changes in pace. Listen to Goods and Gear to hear what I mean.

One of my favourite tracks is Let's Play Northpole. The Righteous Part Of Town is a little more uptempo than the others. Lots of cymbals and rolling drums. It makes you want to get up and dance. If Wishes Were Horses starts off with a bluesy guitar, but then turns into a more punkrock song. What I like most about None is that, although it's not a very original formation, you never go 'where have I heard this before?'. The band has their own style, and that is one that will appeal to a lot of people.

Verdict: A very decent debut album. Nice sound, good lyrics. Definitely something they can impress with. Why haven't we heard about this band before?!
