Album review: Lest We Forget - Lest We Forget

March this year the Essex five piece band Lest We Forget formed to bring us a brand new form of rock. A unique sound that has been outstandingly well received everywhere they played. Lest We Forget are, Jon Last – Guitarist and backing vocals, founder of the band, Rory Hammond – bassist, Joe Haegar – drummer, Robert Simmonds – guitarist and finally Aaron Buchanan – vocals. All talented individuals who in coming together have possibly laid the foundations for something incredible. The band considers their influences to be very varied, taking a leaf from the books of Funeral For A Friend and Killswitch Engaged. Also, the music has elements linking back to soul and jazz.

Within a brief but extremely busy six weeks of being together, Lest We Forget has their self titled EP ready to let loose in the world. It was officially self-realised two months later. Already they have established the bases for a great sound with this EP. Holding 4 tracks all well written and performed to a level you’d expect for a band that had been formed much longer.

My personal favourite song from this EP is Favour the Invincible. Brilliant lyrics with elements of metal tied in. The powerful screamo which you don’t quiet expect until it hits you fits in perfectly with this song, all in all making Favour the Invincible a strong all round song. I’d also like to compliment Light the Skies. With a slightly softer opening, and beautifully constructed lyrics that touch the heart. This shows that Lest We Forget aren’t one of these bands that just keep producing the same song with different lyrics.

The thought of Lest We Forget harnessing this sound and improving it is incredibly exciting, what’s more exciting is that the boys are working towards a debut album already. I for one can’t wait to hear what Lest We Forget have in store for us.

Verdict: All in all Lest We Forget have made a great start from themselves, and it shows. They have already impressed people all over Essex and will no doubt continue to do so. They have a unique sound and are instantly likable. An amazing band that reminded me what music is all about.
