Album: Scissor Sisters - Ta-Dah

Mix The Village People with The Beegees, add a beat that makes you want to move and a funky tune and then you’ll get something close to Scissor Sisters. Their first (self-titled) album was the best selling album in the UK in 2004. Singles like Comfortably Numb, Filthy/Gorgeous and Take Your Mama did very well in Europe. Somehow the success in their homeland USA remains limited. Ta-Dah will hopefully change that.

The release of Ta-Dah was preceded by single I Don’t Feel Like Dancing. A very catchy song that makes you want to just that: dance. The band’s ultimate hero Elton John plays piano and co-wrote this little gem, which reached number one in several countries. The radio version opens differently than the one on the album. Like 2004’s Scissor Sisters, Ta-Dah is full of gay-friendly and sexually tinted lyrics. Take She's My Man, for example: "As I lie between these covers I wanna tell her that I love it When she chokes me in the backseat of her riverboat". Don’t let the happy tunes fool you though, some of the lyrics are much deeper than they first appear.

Again the album contains a mixture of disco-songs and laidback slower tracks. No crazy covers this time, but Scissor Sisters don't need another one of those to help get them noticed. They have proved to be great already. So come on America, when a band can count Elton John, Thom Yorke, David Gilmour and Robbie Williams amongst their fans, they must be good!

Verdict: Ta-Dah is definitely one of the best albums of the year.
