Album review: Uniklubi - LuotisadeUniklubi is a Finnish band from Tampere that will always have a special place in my heart mainly for one reason – because it was the first Finnish band I´ve discovered that was singing in Finnish. If not for that they would probably be just another one in a long line of similar sounding Tampere (soft/melodic) rock bands to me. But Finnish lyrics have this special charm and combined with Jussi´s soft voice they just come out sounding amazing – even if you have no idea what they are really about. Or maybe exactly because of that, because all the mystery remains hidden in this mysterious but beautiful language. Luotisade is the band’s third studio album and again one that promises them nice sales numbers. It’s never easy to make a strong follower fot a very successful debut album (which their album Rakkautta ja Piikkilankaa from 2004 definitely was) but they managed very well with Kehä in 2005, which was still very much Uniklubi but for a level more rock. And Luotisade is another upgrade to that one; even more rock, more power, also a bit heavier and darker – but also including some nice melodic ballads like Varjot or Aika mustaa muistot. My favourite songs off the album are the opening two tracks Kiveen and Älä jää. Verdict: If you like Finnish rock in Finnish – definitely go out and get yourself a copy of this album and if you don’t have the previous two, get them as well! |
