Captain Jack's Back

Plot

Captain Jack Sparrow is back, and this time he owes a debt to legendary Davy Jones - captain of The Flying Dutchman. Jack, being Jack, will stop at nothing to find a way out of repaying his debt before it's too late. This, unfortunately, spells bad news for the wedding plans of Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner as they get caught up in Jack's plans yet again. It's literally a life of death situation for our love birds...

The Black Pearl is once again sea bound to a destination that only Jack's compass can lead them to, on an action packed journey to find the key that will open the Dead Man's Chest - the only way Jack can avoid a repaying his debt and serving aboard the ghostly Flying Dutchman. But, Jack isn't the only person interested in acquiring the key and getting hold of the contents of the chest. Pesky lot those British.

Acting

Johnny Depp is brilliant as Captain Jack, but is less Keith Richards-esque as he was in the first film, which I thought was a bit disappointing as that was part of his appeal. Keira Knightly gives a good performance, but can always be relied upon to pout on command. Orlando Bloom is on top form as Will Turner with his mix of serious and comedy scenes. The faithful crew of The Black Pearl are back for more adventures with their Captain, including Mackenzie Crook (who most of you will recognise as Gareth from "The Office"). Bill Nighy plays the legendary Davy Jones (the bad guy - boooo), and Jack Davenport is back as the slightly worse for wear Commodore Norrington, complete with his own hidden agenda.

The film mostly lived up to my expectations, although there are one or two scenes that drag on maybe a little too much. Overall, the film is a must for anyone who wants to see what our three friends get up to next. Watch out at the end though as it all ends rather suddenly, with an old familiar face making a surprise appearance, but with one or two unanswered questions, thus leaving the door open for film number 3.

Verdict: Captain Jack's back, and trust me, you don't want to miss this film!
