Sometimes the last person on earth you want to be with is the one person you can't be without.

Plot
Naturally, this film is based on the well known Jane Austen novel, just like the BBC mini series was. The big difference is that in the five hour BBC version there was time to work out the various characters, which is exactly what this film, with Keira Knightley in the lead as Miss Elizabeth Bennet, lacks.

I absolutely love BBC’s Pride and Prejudice and Colin Firth is the one and only Mark Darcy for me. But I was pretty disappointed by this version of the magical love story. Because of the lack of time, the relationship between Elizabeth and her father wasn’t worked out properly. The tragedy hitting the family when one of Elizabeth’s younger sisters runs away with a man who has ill intentions and Darcy saving the day, doesn’t make an impact at all. All in all, two hours just isn’t enough to make a proper film of this novel.

Acting
Technically speaking, the acting wasn’t disappointing at all and Knightley has proven to be able to carry a film. But due to the weak story the characters are shallow and not very convincing. In the miniseries the characters are all a bit over the top, especially Mrs. Bennet and Mr. Colins, which makes it fun to watch. In this version the only one that was over the top was Matthew Macfadyen as Mark Darcy. And this time over the top wasn’t a very positive statement.

Verdict: I probably shouldn’t keep comparing the two, but it’s unavoidable. When you have never seen the mini series and aren’t quite familiar with the story, you would probably enjoy this film. If you have, please don’t watch this one, because it will screw up the story for you.
