Film: Silent HillTaglineEnjoy your stay. PlotFrom the popular horror game series called Silent Hill, comes the movie that’s meant to make you shiver... Just because Sharon is the adopted daughter of Rose and Christopher Da Silva, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t try their best to find out what’s the cause of her sleeping disorder. Sharon is a little girl who sleepwalks every night. Not only that, but she seems to repeat the name of a town… Silent Hill. To try and find out the cause of this, Rose decided to take a trip to Silent Hill, West Virginia where she hopes to find answers and cure her beloved daughter. Things do not go well when they arrive. After a near miss of hitting a little girl walking across the street and crashing her car in the side of the road, Rose awakens to find Sharon missing. She runs and comes to the town of Silent Hill where things are not quite what they seem. Ash is raining down and nobody is answering her cries for help. Spotting a little girl who looks like Sharon, Rose follows her and comes across a strange room as a siren blares overhead. Strange creatures appear and she loses sight of the little girl. The nightmare begins. With the help of Officer Bennett, the cop who first suspects her of kidnapping, Rose must find her daughter and discover the truth of Silent Hill before all is lost. All the while, Christopher is doing is own investigating as he tries to find out what has happened to his wife and daughter. Why does the little girl look like Sharon? What happened to cause the chaos that is now Silent Hill? One thing is for sure, Silent Hill is a place of sin. ActingRadha Mitchell plays Rose Da Silva and does a wonderful job. She portrays a very concerned mother who must become stronger to save her daughter from tremendous danger. Sean Bean plays Christopher Da Silva though we don’t get a chance to seem him as much. Laurie Holden stars as the head strong Officer Bennett who will do all within her power to save Sharon and reunite her with her mother. The only actress I feel could have done better is Jodelle Ferland, who played a dual role as Sharon and Alessa (the little girl from Silent Hill). As Sharon, she does a weak job; however, as Alessa she did better at portraying the cause of the horrors of the town. I found the movie to be not as scary as the previews made it to be though it did have a feel of creepiness. There could have been more scenes with the creatures perhaps. The acting was good for the most part. The plot tries to stick to the game though the game is scarier in my opinion. If you don’t know much about the games, you might not be too keen on the movie. Rumor has it a second movie is in the making with more focus on Christopher Da Silva (you’ll need to see this movie to know what his new role will be) just like in the game series. Verdict: Overall, the movie was pretty good for a horror film. |
