Film: Spiderman 3TaglineThe Battle Within PlotAfter finally finding the balance between his love life and being Spider-Man, Peter Parker feels he’s got it all. Alas, everyone knows life likes to play games. Harry Osbourne, Peter’s ex-best friend, is ready to put on his dad’s Goblin costume and take revenge on Peter, who he believes killed his father. Then Flint Marko escapes from prison, a man who police now think was the actually killer of Uncle Ben. While escaping police, Marko falls into a pit where scientists are testing nuclear reactions. He gets caught right in the middle of a test and has his molecules changed into sand. Sandman is born! To top things off, Eddie Brock turns up threatening to steal Peter’s opportunity at a desk job at the Daily Bugle. And soon Mary Jane breaks up with him. From good luck to bad luck. Such is life, Peter Parker! Until a mysterious black substance makes its way to him one fateful night that is. Suddenly Spider-Man is turned black and Peter is seduced into a darker side of himself. He’s bent on revenge against those who did him wrong. But with evil deeds comes a price, and Peter must come to terms with his actions or be sucked into a life where those he loved now fear him and all he stood for is forgotten. Anger is like venom. ActingI felt the acting in this movie was a little like the acting in the other two movies of this trilogy, fairly good but a bit better. Tobey Maguire does well with his role as the geeky Peter Parker who dons the persona of Spider-Man whenever there is trouble. I enjoyed his amusing dark side in this movie, which some might say borders the style of “emo”. But they could have explored more into it. Kirstun Dunst returns as Mary Jane, now attempting a career on Broadway which soon fails. James Franco is welcomed with open arms once again as Harry Osbourne, a young man mourning his father’s death and deeply rooted in his need to have revenge. The two actors I felt were lacking in this move had to be Topher Grace [Eddie Brock/Venom] and Thomas Haden Church [Flint Marko/Sandman]. There was just something lacking in their bad guy characters though they did a decent job. Perhaps we just needed to hear a bit more about them in this movie is all. Though I must admit that as Venom, Topher Grace did scare me a tad bit. Had to be the razor teeth. Verdict: Despite the mixed reactions of the fans, this movie seems to have done very well. It’s got to be my favorite of the three Spider-Man films currently. I felt there was more going on and liked the fact they explored the darker side of Peter a little bit, which turned out more amusing rather than serious. The fighting scenes seemed more intense. Definitely had me with wide eyes. So in the end, a good job on the newest addition to the Spider-Man world. |
