Live: Infadels at Vera, Groningen

The album ‘We Are Not The Infadels’ has been on my mp3 player permanently for the past months. I love it and was thrilled to find out the band was playing my hometown! It did mean I had to reschedule my plans for that weekend, but hell, I didn’t mind! I wasn’t disappointed; it was a great night!

Explaining what the Infadels are like on stage is hard. They are all over the place, how they manage to produce their airtight sound is beyond me! As stated on their MySpace page: The little guy screams, the thin guy smashes his guitar, the stocky fella stomps around swinging his bass above his head, the hairy one jumps about four foot in the air and lands on his keyboard and the really tall one smashes the drums so hard the others are all deaf. That sums it up nicely.

Lead singer Bnann is only a small man, but damn what a voice! He has a very wide range and can sing anything from pure rock to sugar sweet pop and dance. Whether he sings alone or is backed by his band mates, it all sounds fantastic. The band’s enthusiasm, and of course their very bouncy music, was infectious and a very impressive part of the Vera-crowd was jumping up and down. We were all dancing, or at least tapping our feet and nodding our heads.

There aren’t many bands who manage to sound exactly like they do on their albums when they play live. Maximo Park pulled it off in Amsterdam last year, and the Infadels can add this to their list of skills as well. The sound was good and not too loud, there was no need for earplugs! Ok, except for the last two songs maybe, when we all were a bit out of control. The only disappointment, a very small one though, was that Can’t Get Enough was slightly less tight than the others. Apart from that: brilliant!

Verdict: Seeing this band is like being at a party, dancing the night away. Definitely worth dropping previously made plans for!
