Live review: My Chemical Romance European Tour November 2007Click on the names to go directly to the review of that show: Vienna – Nov 2ndThe show in Vienna was my solo gig. When I found out none of my friends that I thought would be going with me, were able to go at the end, I suddenly got an idea to do an interview with MSI while being there alone waiting for the gig to start – and I did! You can check it out here. MSI totally rocked the place up! Or should I say ´danced´ the place up! They are just natural born entertainers. Even if you try you just can’t keep your eyes off of them and move with the rhythm they produce. And after talking to them before the gig, I definitely saw them differently than I would otherwise and I just kept on grinning all through the gig and even all the way home because of them. You just gotta love them. MCR entering the stage, made the crowd go mad. Literarily. Not too pleasant for your ears. Their set was pretty standard, some Black Parade, some Revenge, only mixed up a bit, but considering they had a replacement drummer (which is something I am still very grateful for, I wouldn’t take another cancellation very well after the Venice fiasco), that was to be expected. Even with no extra songs, just that feeling that they are right up there on stage in front of you again playing the songs that you’ve been playing in your car over and over for months was enough to make the night unforgettable. 8/10 Brussels - Nov 6thThe venue in Brussels was much smaller and much nicer than the one in Vienna and we got pretty good spots and eventually we even ended up quite at the front after joining the pit. The crowd was not as enthusiastic as in Austria, but we sure were, and it ended up being one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to so far and definitely the best My Chem gig of the three for me. When MCR came on I expected them to start with This Is How I Disappear like in Vienna but they stated playing something else, something I didn’t recognize right away. And then suddenly it hit me – it’s the new song! Wrong, so wrong to start with a song that no one really knows that well yet! You save a cherry like that for the middle or closer to the end! The rest of the set was the same as before, but with a little surprise: a song from their first album I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love - Headfirst For Halos. Oh my God! We all just went nuts! Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine this to happen to us! Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts! Just brilliant, absolutely brilliant! 9/10 Düsseldorf – Nov 8thI had no expectations of MSI. The opinions about this band of people I know were very mixed up, and I deliberately hadn’t listened to their music before the show. I was a blank canvas. Their crossover music, funny and sarcastic lyrics and very entertaining performance blew me away! They’ve definitely impressed me. It was the 5th time I saw MCR play live, and this was one of the best shows I’ve seen, performance wise. The setlist was great, with not one but two songs from Bullets(!!): Headfirst for Halos and Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough For The Two Of Us! Not only did we get those, but also an amazing cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's classic Fortunate Son, that nobody in the crowd seemed to know but me. The energy coming off the band was amazing and the German crowd was wild. On a more personal level the entire experience was utterly crappy. Go check out our blog for details. All in all a 8/10.London – Nov 15thEven with two of their members missing (guitarist Frank Iero had to fly home because of personal problems and drummer Bob Bryar hurt his wrist) My Chemical Romance pull out all the stops. They play every show like it’s their last one. They have been doing so for the past few years and they show no signs of letting up. In London, performing before their biggest crowd to date according to singer Gerard Way, they proved once again why their stage show is in the top five of must-see gigs of 2007. Love them or loathe them, critics have been struck dumb once they actually made the effort of going to see My Chemical Romance live. With an impending lengthy hiatus around the corner, see them live while you still can.9/10 |
